Eye Glasses Starting at only $8!!!!

I don't wear glasses, but a friend sent me an email about a great deal that sounded just too good to be true! Before I posted it on this blog, I waited about a month to get an update.
and.......
She absolutely LOVES them. They arrived in about a week and she has been completely satisfied with their quality. With two kids, she was sick of paying a lot for glasses that were just going to end up bent or broken.

Taxes... Shiver

Many of you already know I am an attorney. Some of you even know I am a tax attorney (after doing healthcare for a few years, I switched.) I have done taxes for an even smaller number of you in past years. People are starting to ask me questions about whether I am doing taxes again next year. (Sheri!)

What's the point of this post? I am offering to do taxes for the ward. The reason I am offering this early is that there are some things for your 2009 taxes you should do before year end, if you plan on them. (For instance, paying your real estate taxes before Dec. 31 if you're itemizing will boost your return. Also, if your kid is due in January, have him or her induced early. Just kidding. :P) SO, if you want me to do your taxes, maybe we should talk a bit before the end of the year.

Here's the catch. I do taxes for myself, and my family, and a few old clients mostly. I have to buy expensive professional software to do it. (You may not know this but Turbo Tax is NOT something any CPA or professional would ever use for a variety of reasons, mostly because it's horrible. Sorry, I digress.) I also have to pay a "per return filed" fee.

AND this year, I am working part time. SO, I can't just do them for free--I just don't have the time. I am NOT posting this to try and make money off you, though. My fees are basically so that I am only doing your taxes if you really want (or need) a professional to do them. Call H&R Block or a CPA in the Spring and compare and you won't think I am trying to profit off you. I get all the work I want from my job--trust me on this.

So, if you want me to do your taxes for 2009, gimme a call or shoot me an email. We can talk about what you may need to do (or consider) in the next few months. My charges are as follows:

Married Filing Jointly (Federal only) $80
MFJ (Federal, State and local) $120

Single (Federal only) $60
Single (Federal, State and Local) $80

I am not discriminating against married people--they are just more work! If anyone thinks this post is not in the spirit of the blog (I thought about asking someone first, but wasn't sure who to ask!) please let me know and I will happily delete it.

Bridget

PS- I e-file almost exclusively--which means you'll get your return (if applicable) faster and you're less likely to be audited. If you don't know what this means, I can walk you through it.

Confessions of a Tight-wad

So I have to admit that my all time favorite store is D.I. No matter what I buy, when I leave that store, there's no buyer's remorse due to overspending. I just can't help but feel giddy, knowing the great deal I got. Out here in Hershey, the great garage sales filled that need for second-hand good deals, but winter left me feeling blue.
But I just discovered there's a Salvation Army store called "Family Store" in the same strip mall as A.C. Moore on Union Deposit. And get this! Every Wednesday, their clothes and shoes are 50% off!!! I got Caleb 5 pairs of jeans for 50 cents each. Love it. Let the good penny-pinching times roll!

Free little ice creams

My amazingly talented and fun friend Angie just mentioned that your kids can always get free little ice cream cones at McDonalds. Just go up to the front and ask for one, they usually keep the cones by the registers. It's a great free dessert if you're having a special meal at McDonald's. Thanks, Angie!
