This month there are some GREAT sales going on at both the Emergency Essentials (www.beprepared.com) and Shelf Reliance (www.shelfreliance.com) websites. If we order one of the minimum requirements on the Emergency Essential group specials (page 2 of their catalog--yes, you can view it on their website), we get free shipping. Food Storage Thoughts

So, I've been watching the prices of grains and such with all the announcements out there--wild fires destroying the wheat fields in Russia and Russia cancelling all exporting of the grain at least until the end of the year; France having issues with their wheat fields; here in the US the wheat growers in the west are very concerned about the infestation of grasshoppers. The newpaper articles are telling everyone not to fear; that there is plenty of wheat and there will be no wheat shortage...if you want more info on this respond to this and I can send you a link.

Long and short of it is that the prices for wheat are going up pretty steadily. I just ordered some from the Honeyville Grain Company and it is great quality. Their shipping rate is $4.49 no matter what or how much you order. Yes, $4.49 for the entire order. I was wondering if anyone wanted to order anything from them in the next month???? Please take a look at their site and perhaps we can get an order together by the end of September. They have great stuff...even some items in smaller sizes. Their website is www.honeyvillegrain.com.

Also, you may want to check out honeyvillegrain.com. They have a lot of great stuff, including smaller size packaging for those who may wish to try an item first rather than buy a big quantity. Their shipping rate at this time is $4.95 per order--no matter what the quantity or where it's going in the USA. If we have interest in items from them we can pool our orders and possibly have shipping cost less than $1!

Hey all! This months group order deals are great! We have apple slices for $10 a can if 12 cans are purchased--and already I have a few cans of those lined up that someone would like! Personal BurnFree Burn Kits are $7 this month if 10 kits are purchased. Cans of freeze-dried broccoli are a carry-over for this month--$10/can if 12 cans are purchased and headlamps for $4 if 15 are purchased. Also, if you have looked into Shelf Reliance products you know they are good quality items. You may order them through Costco for a cheaper price. Check it out at www.costco.com. Not a Costco member? No problem! Call me and let me know and I can place an order for you--free shipping!--and have it delivered to your door! Too pricey but you want the items? Consider going in with another family or two and order the same case 2 (or 3) months in a row, everyone pitching in their portion, and you can all end up with a whole case, buying it a few cans at a time.

Emergency Essentials Group Order for April

Some of the group order specials this month are freeze-dried broccoli ($10/can if 12 cans are purchased), mangos ($16/can if 6 cans purchased) and carrot dices ($7/can if 12 cans purchased). They also have the large size backpacks for only $7.00 each if 12 are purchased. There is also a headlamp (so you can have your hands free in an emergency!) for $4.00 each if 15 are purchased. There are MANY more specials--mountain house meals, popcorn, instant preium yeast and garden seeds in a can!--this month but it's the group specials that need to be met in order to obtain free shipping on the entire order.

If you do not have a Costco membership, don't let that stop you or spend extra money to belong there...please let me know and you can purchase it through my membership. Food Storage Indoor Play Idea

Here's a fun indoor activity for the kids since they are home AND it uses our FOOD STORAGE! This will be among the recipes that I have prepared for our RS Food Storage night coming up this Wednesday, Feb. 17...

Cookie Clay Dough - like play-doh but you can cook and eat it!

In a mixer, cream together:
1/2 C sugar
1/2 C brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 C butter
1 t vanilla

Then add:
2 C whole wheat flour (white or any combination can also be used)
2 T dry egg powder or 1 large egg (can substitute 1/4 C applesauce or 1/2 mashed banana or 2 t baking powder and 2 T water--the idea is to use what you have)
1 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1/2 t cinnamon

If you use dehydrated eggs then mix and slowly add 2 - 4 T water til it is the consistancy of play-doh.

Then you need:
clean hands
table or counter top
creativity
can use cookie cutters or washed and cleaned play-doh accessaries

Place on ungreased cookie sheet
Bake 350 for 10 - 15 minutes, depending on thickness you may need to keep your eye on it!
Germs will be killed by high oven temps! :)

Cool 3 minutes and EAT!
