Let's Meet at the Pool

Suzette and I have memberships to the Rec Center pool in Hershey ("the plaza") and wonder if anyone wants to meet us there when it opens next Thursday, August 6th at 12:30. Last time we we saw 5 families from the ward and it was fun! If you live in the township it costs $6 for adults, $4 for kids and 4 and under is free. If you do not live in the township don't even ask what it costs. I believe it's about double the cost. There IS a baby pool. That's where I'll be!

P.S. If you want to go home after a couple hours you can always go back that evening until 8pm with your wristband. FYI- Admission is half off after 5p.m. and it's a really nice time to go. There's your coupon clipper tip!

Few Back to School Items

Here are a few items if anybody would like them. They were hand-me-downs that just didn't work for us for one reason or another...or another...or another. :)

Oh- I forgot to post a photo of some brown lightweight pants that I have. They are Old Navy size 5T. They're cute.
P.S. I am posting the brands because we all know that different brands fit differently, for instance Old Navy runs super small in my opinion so an average 4-year old might fit them. I really don't care what brand these clothes are.

Busy weekend ahead...

I just got on the link to the Hershey Insider and saw that we are in for a busy tourist weekend. I have heard of the quilt shows that occur around here and saw that there is the 10th Annual Quilt Odyssey begins its run today at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center. This isn't your grandmother's craft show: it's a sophisticated show of fabric art, and draws thousands of enthusiasts. Quilt Odyssey runs July 30 through August 2. Admission is $8 for one day and $12 for multiple day pass. I was thinking of going and wondered if any of you ladies would like to go as well?

Two weeks ago I went to Aldi and saw that their fresh flowers were on special for 1.99. I picked some up and they lasted a full week. Last week they were .99 and they were again today. The flowers I got last week still look as fresh as the day I bought them.

Baby Sleep Help

Gap mark downs.... FREE item from Christopher & Banks....

I was just in Gap Kids in Colonial Park Mall (Harrisburg) today and they have some good mark downs. I found some great summer clearance items for 75% off. They currently have an additional 25% off their clearance/sale items. I found a fun boy's swimming suit for $3, t-shirt for $2, etc...

Also, if there is anyone out there that likes Christopher and Banks or has a mother that likes their stuff.... you can sign up for their emails and they will give you a $10 off your next purchase coupon (via email). I printed off the coupon this morning, took it into the store with me and was able to get a free shirt for my mom. They currently have a sale going on with racks for $9.99 and $14.99 for shirts, jackets, skirts, dresses, etc. I always love something for FREE!!! If you want to stop in the store, they have a form you can fill out to receive emails. Also, they have been getting coupons for a free preview showing of the movie "Julie and Julia" that starts in theaters on August 7th. The coupons are compliments from Sony Entertainment and will admit 2 people. The coupons are for next Wednesday at 7:30 pm. They distribute more coupons that there are seats available as they want to fill the theaters. (So it's not a sure thing). But hey, a cheap date!

Also, it's been a while since I have been in Michael's Craft store and I learned today that they are accepting their competitors coupons from A.C. Moore and JoAnn's. So if you have your eye on something at Michael's, hold on to your coupons and you can use them there. I was able to use two coupons. The cashier was really nice and just rang up the two items separately so that I could get the 40% and 50% off.

Free Vegetables

So I'm here in Idaho for my sister's wedding and my garden is producing beans, tomatoes, peas, summer squash, peppers, lettuce, spinach, cucumbers?, and weeds. If someone would like to come and harvest it, I would like someone to use the food instead of it going to waste.

Just ignore the weeds (I hope you can even find the plants), and if things are really dry, it would be great if you could give things a squirt from the hose (there's a spigot at the back of the house by the door). I need someone to come pick stuff starting Wed. July 22nd through the end of July. The garden is behind the fence that encloses our backyard, farthest from the house. We have about 20 #10 cans that we have emptied (we sure love oatmeal) that are free to anyone that would like to reuse them. They have been refilled a time or two and are still good for quite a few more.

Joanns Coupon blowout!

Hey everyone! I just went to Joann's yesterday and they handed me a whole sheet of coupons that start on Monday 20th -Saturday. There are 9 coupons, all for different things. Mainly they are 40% off coupons. Here's the thing, at check out, you can use as many as you like, all at the same time. So, if you have 6 coupons, and 6 items that apply to each coupon, you can use them all.
I didn't ask if they will be sending the coupons in the paper, but it appears as if they are obtained in-store only.

$1.00 Homemade Ice Cream Cones

Just wanted to let everyone know about $1 ice cream cones at Milton Hershey School. The students in the agricultural program make the ice cream and sell it during the summer. It is GREAT ice cream too (not to mention the scoops are huge!).

It is for sale Monday - Friday 1PM- 4PM. I was told it would be for sale until August 14th. You can also purchase half gallons for $3.99.

If so, watch out on Homestead in Hershey. On Tuesday people were getting pulled over right and left and again this morning. I drove down one direction and someone was pulled over and ten minutes later as I drove the opposite direction someone else was pulled over. This is just a courtesy post because there's nothing worse than being pulled over on a perfectly good day.

Inexpensive Swim Lessons

Katie just told me about swim lessons held at the Annville-Cleona swimming pool. Lessons run Monday through Friday and one week costs $17.00 (WOW!).
They have a session running July 13-17 and July 20-24. There are classes for 4 & younger (11-11:30), 5&6 (10:30-11) and 5,6 & older (10-10:30). Parents are welcome to bring lawn chairs and sit and observe outside the fenced area. I don't see a phone number on my registration form or I'd pass it on.

I've recently discovered that the best place to buy diapers is at Kmart when I have a stack of coupons for Huggies diapers. Not only can you double your coupons when Kmart is offering their double coupons up to $2 but you can combine that offer with the other offer they have going (you spend a certain amount on Huggies brand and other brands throughout the store and get money back...like spend $50 get $14 back). You can do pretty well!

FREE Gym membership ???

So this is for any employee of PSHMC who has the Highmark employee insurance. In an effort to help people stay healthy and not have to use your insurance, they now offer Gym membership reimbursement up to $350 per household, or $200 for the employee himself.

To qualify, you AND your spouse must get 100 registered gym visits for the year (January-December, so this year is already 6 months gone. So unless you have already been going to a gym, you are going to have to go 4x a week to make it count.)

But for next year, it would mean a visit to the gym twice a week to qualify.

There is a form that you print out from the benefits page. You will need to get a signature confirming your 100 visits, and a receipt of how much you paid for your membership that year. If you only paid $100, then they only reimburse you $100, if you paid $400 they will only reimburse you $350.00.

Now I also talked to them about my personal situation where I live, there is a clubhouse with a gym on the premises and we pay a monthly HOA fee to use it. She said this can count as long as you can get signatures for the 100 visits and a receipt of you gym dues for that year...

You all may have already known about this, but I didn't and thought that I would share it with you in case you have been going to the gym this last year, or that is going to be your New years resolution, but you can't afford a membership...

Free Chick-fil-a on Friday

Hi everyone! In case you didn't already know, Friday is National Cow Appreciation Day. If you go into any chick-fil-a dressed as a cow you get a free combo meal. They even have kits on their website to print and get you started.
Dan and I have a 14 hr. drive that day, so we're "hoofing" it across the country dressed as cows and are going to have free breakfast/lunch/dinner. Fun!

Blueberry Recipes You've Got To Try!

I don't know how many of you got blueberries from Suzette but I'm assuming quite a few did because her van was loaded with them. They are delicious! I'm posting a couple of my favorite blueberry recipes from two of the best cooks that I know, Annie and Mandy. If you were looking for recipes for your blueberries, these recipes will FREE up your time since you need not look any further! :) Also, I was able to try out Ball's recipe for blueberry jam and it's terrific!

Blueberrry Spinach Salad (Annie Reynolds)
•1/2 cup vegetable oil
•1/4 cup raspberry vinegar (I think she used balsamic when I tried it)
•2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
•1 teaspoon sugar
•1/2 teaspoon salt
•1 (10 ounce) package fresh spinach, torn
•1 (4 ounce) package blue cheese, crumbled
•1 cup fresh blueberries
•1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted

In a jar with tight-fitting lid, combine the first five ingredients and shake well. In a large salad bowl, toss the spinach, blue cheese, blueberries and pecans. Add dressing and toss gently; serve immediately.


Lemon Blueberry Bread (Mandy Heaston)
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons grated lemon zest
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup white sugar

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x4 inch loaf pan.
2. In a mixing bowl, beat together butter, 1 cup sugar, juice and eggs. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; stir into egg mixture alternately with milk. Fold in peel, nuts, and blueberries. Pour batter into prepared pan.
3. Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 70 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean. Cool bread in pan for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, lemon juice and 1/2 cup sugar in a small bowl. Remove bread from pan and drizzle with glaze. Cool on a wire rack.

I'm now adding a recipe I just tried tonight. It's called Blueberry Buckle and it's smashing! It tastes like the best blueberry muffin you've ever had.

Blueberry Buckle (Camie)
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar, divided
1 large egg
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ½ cups fresh blueberries
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ cup butter

Beat softened butter at medium speed until creamy. Gradually add ½ cup sugar, mixing well. Add egg and continue beating.
Combine 1 ¼ cups flour, baking powder and salt, then add to beaten mixture alternately with milk. Stir in vanilla. Pour batter into greased 8-inch square baking dish. Top with blueberries.
Combine remaining sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Cut in ¼ cup butter until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over blueberries. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes.

Wanted- Will Buy or Trade

Before I go searching for one, I'd like to see if any of you have a warm car seat cover for winter. I have a pink one with sheepskin on one side and light pink suede on the other. The only real "problem" is that it is pink and I need a more neutral color. I am willing to trade or buy one that you are willing to sell. Let me know!

Kmart Doubles

Kmart is doubling coupons again this week. There are some different (I think) requirements than in the past. The ad says you have to spend $25 but it doesn't say before or after coupons. I just spent $22 after coupons and my coupons doubled. Also, you can only use 10 coupons per day. They do take internet printed manufacture coupons. There are some good deals if you use your higher value coupons - particularly in cereal. They have GM cereal 4/$6 so if you can get two $1 off 2 coupons you can get boxes for $0.50 a piece. Just be careful to make sure you get the right boxes and that you only get 4. Anything more or less than that is 4/$10. I also got Pantene conditioner free using the $2 off coupon that came in the paper this week. Just a few of the best deals I got! Also, if anyone is going to spend a lot at Kmart I got two coupons that printed out - $5 off health and beauty on a purchase of $25 or more and $5 off grocery and drug store purchase of $50 or more. Bass and Disney Store Outlet

My mom dragged me to the outlets last night :) and Bass had LOTS of merchandise for 50% off plus an additional 20, 30 or 40% off. When I got to the register we asked if we could save any more by showing our Bass Rewards card and they said they'd take off an additional 40% off one item. Since I had lost my card they gave me one on the spot and off went 40%.
Disney had pretty crazy sales. Swimwear for 6.00, 75% off sunglasses, 75% off flip flops, lots of shirts for 2.99 plus I think they offered additional percentages off. Nightgowns, dresses, etc. Lots of boy things but I'm not in the habit of looking. Two-packs of gibitz for crocs are 1.20 (or you can go to Magic Kingdom and pay $4-$5 each). Everything was on sale but I was beyond wanting to look very hard. My mom got some inexpensive beach balls and sidewalk chalk to take home to my nephews.

Deal of the Day: Bras!

My mom just called from Hanes at the outlets and said that bras that were originally $35 (Bali Platinum) were marked down to 19.99 then 6.99 but rung up at 1/2 off so were 3.50 each! She said they are located by the dressing room and easy to miss if you aren't looking for them.

Free Items

Item #1: Tamara Tuttle has an almost full package of Parent's Choice (Walmart's) size newborn diapers. Comment if you want them.

Item #2: July 10th-11th Free drive in movie at Shank Park. Movie begins at dusk and admission is free. Bring lawn chairs and blankets or watch and listen from your car. A concession stand will be open during the movie. The movie is E.T.
