As I was driving down 322 today I noticed a sign stating that Milton Hershey School is serving ice cream from noon-3:30 Monday through Friday.

Broom/Swagbucks

OK, two things:
1-Does anyone have on old broom they want to sell/get rid of? I need one to use for an outside broom, but apparently it's not the most frequent item people put out in their garage sales... :) I know, what a random request... :)
2- I have been reading a few penny-pincher blogs lately and they have mentioned Swagbucks. Do any of you do it, or have an opinion regarding them?

Eye of Round

Weis Market had whole cuts of eye of round for 1.99/lb. I bought a huge piece for a roast for 8 dollars instead of the original 23-dollar price. Just got to have your rewards card handy. Super cheap meat for roasts. They had quite a few there I just happened to be there and look.

I got the following email from Suzette, hopefully many of you did also, but just in case here's the info. Please pass it on to all of your friends.

The below email is being forwarded around a lot. I talked with the Derry Police Dept. today (6/23). Ryan Seese is currently out on bail and splits his time living at both a Hershey (his house is right next to the Elementary school and Middle School) and

Palmyra address. He has a restraining order to not be allowed within 250 feet of Derry Township parks (this order does not apply to parks in other towns). In addition to the May bathroom incident below, about a week and a half ago (June 14 or so), a person matching his description (but not confirmed to be him) talked with a day camper at Hershey’s Cocoa Castle playground. When approached, the man left.

Parents should study the attached photo and keep it in mind when out with your children. You may also want to show it to your children and anyone else who cares for your children.

On May 24, 2010, Derry Township Police Department arrested Ryan James Seese, 36, of Hetrick Court, Palmyra and East Areba Avenue, Hershey, for Criminal Trespass, Invasion of Privacy, and Disorderly Conduct for an incident that occurred on May 13, 2010 in the Hershey Middle School. The Criminal Complaint alleges that Seese entered the girls restroom in the Hershey Middle School at 1940 hours when it was occupied by two juvenile females, knowing that he was not licensed or priveleged to do so by his gender and that he stood on a commode and peered into the next stall to view a fourteen year old female while she was partially undressed and using the commode in her stall. Seese was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Dominic A. Pelino was committed to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of $10,000.00 bail.

Bass Pro Shop Activities

I wish my kids were a little older to really appreciate this. I wonder if I count as a kid?
Anyway, there are a ton of free, fun activities at the Bass Pro Shop in Harrisburg. Go here for more info. Once there, you can even locate our specific Harrisburg store (from "Store" link on top) and get more details on things like "deep fried candy bar workshop" Yum!

The Hershey Story

Central Penn Parent Magazine is having an event at the Hershey Story tomorrow, Thursday, June 24. There will be face painting, crown decorating and I think some other activities from 2 pm to 5 pm. PLUS, and this is the good part, half off admission! You have to have the coupon though. You can print it from here.

MDT Summer Reading Program

Ok, so the Middletown Public Library has a great line up of prizes for the Summer Reading Program for kids, teens and adults alike.
Kids get free taco at taco bell, free frosty, free auntie anne's pretzel, free doc's pass, free zoo america, free ice cream at twin kiss, free book, and a chance to get a personal dvd player in a drawing. Teens have similar prizes and adults get a book for 8 books read. Kids earn 1 point for every 30 minutes they read or are read to. Sign-up online and keep track of points online. You can go in for a booklet with ideas for other ways of earning points, but you could do it all online, and just come when you are done to collect the prizes. Where the Wild Things Will Be

On Saturday, June 26 at 8:30 pm, Where the Wild Things Are will be shown "under the stars" at Shope Gardens Park (2 Theodore Ave, Middletown.) Families are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and snacks. Refreshments will also be available for purchase. No tickets necessary for this free event.

*Word of warning--I don't know how many of you saw the movie, but even though it was made from a children's book, it's not really a super kid-friendly film, especially for the little ones. It's kind of sad. But beautifully made if you ask me.

Produce for Less

Not everybody loves Aldi- you have to make sure you always have a quarter handy, you have to bag your own groceries and you can't find everything you need (one-stop shopping is a priority for me!). However, the store is always clean, you never have to worry about a shopping cart dinging your car, the prices are right AND the produce is GREAT!!
Yesterday I got pints of blueberries for 1.19 each, 1 pound of strawberries for 1.39, cantaloupe for 1.39, watermelon for under $5, several zucchini for under $2, celery for 1.19, 2-packs of peppers for under $2, cucumbers for 50 cents each, etc. I completely filled my cart with produce and was giddy by the prices especially since it was getting so expensive at Giant and the produce there isn't anything to write home about.
We had the watermelon last night and it was delicious. I tried the blueberries this morning and they're delicious as well. Can't wait to dive into the other stuff.

Ice Cream at Milton Hershey School

I called this morning and talked to the NICEST receptionist. She hadn't heard of the ice cream but went of her way to figure it out. It turns out ice cream is being made at this very moment and will be served sometime next week. They will call me when the ice cream shop opens. At that time I'll let you know. Last year homemade ice cream cones were $1 and they were big.

Garage Sale Today

Today from 7am-1pm Hills of Waterford (doesn't that sound pretty?) is having a neighborhood garage sale. I just got back from doing a little birthday shopping and Christmas shopping for my kids! :) They have over a dozen garage sales. Lots of stuff for preschoolers and babies.

To get there, take Church Road until it meets Roundtop. Turn right. Hills of Waterford will be on your left.

Aveeno Baby, Listerine, Costco "7"

At Costco right now you can get 2-12oz bottles of Aveeno Baby wash/shampoo and 8oz of lotion for $7.97.

They also have their 2-pack (1.5 Liters) of Listerine for $7.97 as well.

AND, for any of you who shop at Costco and don't know the "7" rule, here it is. If a product price ends in a "7" such as the 2 I listed above, it is "on sale". Clint and I have gotten some pretty great deals "7" shopping.

Pick Your Own Sour Cherries at Strites

A neighbor told me today that you can pick your own sour cherries at Strites Orchard in Hummelstown. I'm not sure about the price per pound. She says the sour cherries are sweet enough to eat fresh and great for baking or freezing for later.

Saturday Events

This Saturday at the Hershey High School there is going to be free food,and the police will be there and ems people and other stuff to do. Also I am looking in the paper the Middletown fair is going on this Saturday and Sunday. Free parking,free admission. I am not sure if the pony ride is free. But tons of stuff to do with the kids. Face painting etc. The Middletown event starts at 10 am. And the Hershey one starts also at 10 am. Hope this makes sense.

Chocolate Silly Bandz

We heard that Chocolate World was selling a chocolate pack of silly bandz but they are currently sold out. I asked when they'd be getting more in and they said "mid-summer". If any of you happen to see them at Chocolate World this summer, please let me know so I can tell my girls. Thanks.

It's a great time to head over to Gymboree Outlet! I was able to stock up on solid t-shirts gathered at the neck and sleeves for 2.99 each- white, pink, purple, etc. They have the same style with floral patterns too. Cute dresses for under $7, fleece jackets for 3.99-6.99, skirts, shorts...everything you might want or need at a great price. You don't have to spend much to save a lot!

What to do?

My parents are flying in tonight. They were going to take my girls to Land of the Little Horses tomorrow but there aren't any tours, shows or demos yet. We already have plans for the park, gardens and Lake Tobias. They might go to the driving range but that only takes less than an hour even with lots of buckets of balls. What can we do besides Chuck E. Cheese, Bass Pro Shop or the movies????????????????????????? Any ideas with less than an hour driving involved would be greatly appreciated.
