Tis the season for a fabulous deal on Hair Cuts & Color!

My hairdresser cousin is coming to Hershey on Fri/Sat Dec 2-3 if any of you are interested in getting your hair done. She cut/colored my hair a couple weeks ago and is a color whiz!

Here rates are:

- cut and full color/highlights styled: short hair $60, medium (chin to shoulders) $70, long $80.

- cut and style: $25

- Nails: she also does Shellac nails (which is process that coats your nails in a polish that lasts un-chipped for 3 weeks). Break through! Nails are $20 or $15 if getting hair done.

She can do peoples hair/nails anytime Friday or afternoon/evening on Saturday. Hair takes about 2 hours (2.5 if long) and she can do nails while hair is processing. She will be at my house and I will be around, so if you need to bring your kids along, thats not a problem at all.

Fall Decor

Drastically reducing my decorations that I'm allowing myself to take to NYC. Sigh. I love Fall leaves...

Anyway, up for grabs are leaf garlands, leaf and flower bunches, scarecrow doorhanger, fabric pumpkin, and a one-eyed pumpkin and ghost to put candles in (recognize those? so fun!).

Free Christmas Tree

We upgraded this year and now have a 6 ft Doug Fir fake tree to give away. It's really only about 5ft because we fold down the one foot long point at the top. If you need it or know of someone who does, let us know. We hate to throw it away because it still could still last several more years. Merry Christmas!

Women's Multivitamins

I have a mega-bottle of One A Day Women's multivitamins up for grabs.  I got this at Costco a while back and used maybe 20 vitamins and then I started taking prenatals and will be taking those for a while now.  I would hate for the rest of this bottle to go to waste.  The expiration date is 06/12.

Wheat Grinder Group Discount

Bake Sale

The Partners In Medicine group is having a bake sale today in the Academic Support Building by the hospital.  It is the white building behind the Centerview Garage.  Proceeds will benefit the Hershey area flood victims.  Come by today and get some deliciousness.  I was there to set up this morning and the food is amazing.  I am selling my artisan bread.  Andrea Hatch made cinnamon rolls, among other things.  My friend Wendy made cake pops.  I shouldn't need to continue, you should be on your way now after you heard cake pops!

It's time for the Kids Galore and More fall consignment sale again!  October 14 & 15, Friday 9-7 and Saturday 8-noon at the Brownstone Masonic Lodge in Hershey.  And on Saturday almost everything is half off!  They have baby clothes, kid clothes, shoes, toys, baby gear, and some maternity stuff too.  Last year I found some super cute boots (brand new) for Lucy for $5 at this sale.

Bargain Plants

I just wanted to share my cheap way of landscaping. I hope you never pay full price for a plant - be it perennial or annual. The trick is to wait. Fall is the best time to plant perennials, because it gives the plant time to establish it's roots before it has to spend more energy growing leaves and flowers. And ironically, Fall is also the time when stores are clearing out their plants, so they're cheaper.
Last Fall I planted a whole shade border of perennials for $7 (for 10 plants). Here's some tips:
1-Wait until the Fall when stores are clearing out their plants, and even some nurseries close for the winter. Plants are discounted. (Palmyra Walmart does this, I've never had luck at the Harrisburg Walmart)
2- Buy any plant after the masses have picked over them. For example, buying annuals in early summer instead of Spring gives you a steep discount. And in my experience, plants like petunias last longer (don't get so leggy) when planted a little later. (this is the hardest wait for me, I just want to start planting!) - I bought some annuals at Karns this summer for 10 cents, and some for free!
3-Throughout the summer, look for plants discounted because they bloomed at the wrong time, or have a few dead branches (that can be pruned out). Lowes is my favorite for this. They actually have a cart with steeply discounted plants all year long. I bought huge mums for $1 a month ago, and after some dead-heading (plucking off the dead flowers), they are now blooming abundantly. Last week I bought a dozen small mums for 10 cents each. Love it!!!

For those of you that had your picture taken by me at the temple yesterday, you can get you picture by clicking here.  Find your picture.  Click on it.  Click on "actions" go down to "view all sizes"  Find the size you want.  I recommend "original"  then click on "download original size".  I hope this works for you.  let me know if you have any problems, or if this is too complicated.  It just seemed like the easiest way for me to get a so many pictures out to so many people.  Thanks, Wendy

CANNING STUFF

Hey! I picked up some canning items when the Hull's moved, but realized I barely have room to store these things much less room to make lots of bottled goods. Also, I don't know how. I want to learn someday, but that day is not in the near future. ;) SO I was wondering if anyone wanted them. I have 12 wide-mouthed Mason jars and a large, blue canning pot. The thing is huge and has the holed metal thing at the bottom for steaming, I guess. ;D
I really need them out of the way, so if whoever wants them could pick them up that'd be great.

Hospital study, make $25/person...

Penn State Hershey Medical Center is conducting a DNA research right now. They are looking for around 200 more pairs of biological mother/child. You can use one child or five, but each person that participates gets $25. Christian and I did it; he's super stoked to have made $$ and to pay tithing! :D They prick the finger to take some blood, swab the cheeks, and pull some hair from the root. It's not bad at all, but children between 2 and 3 or 4 might think it too much. I talked to C about it, gave him a choice, and he did great! And it takes about 10 minutes. The nurses doing it were WONDERFUL. If it's for you, it's a good way to make a little extra cash.

The BIG clean out

We are down to our last few months in Hershey (boo).  In preparation for this next big move I am in the beginning stages of getting rid of stuff.  Some is free, some will be a very good deal.  I was to tired/lazy to take pictures before I started this post so I will just list some items and you can contact me if you are interested.  I will start with the free stuff

FABRIC:  all the projects planned but never done.  I am trying to eliminate two full boxes of fabric.  I also have some left over batting.  There is too much left for me to just throw away.

A Chicco Key Fit 30 car seat in Extreme.  I loved my car seat.  This car seat was manufactured in 2008.  I checked and there is no recall on the it, and it is in really great shape.  I only used if for Lily.

A baby moses basket and the bedding.  Not the cutest thing in the world but it served it's function for me.  I liked having a bed for the baby downstairs.

Baby bath tub.  It is a fold able style.  Only used for Lily.

Actually I will be getting rid of most of my baby stuff.  If you are in need contact me.  I have a few Bundle Me, baby slings, hip hammock, bouncy seats, Johnny Jump up, a Hop and Pop (I know you don't know what this is, but it's super cool, kind of like an excersauer but smaller.) I also have bibs, blankets, burp clothes.  I may charge for a few of the items but not much.

I also have a Peg Perego single stroller, (atlantico).  It is 7 years old.  Mitch is making charge for that one $30 (negotiable.)

Stoney Run Community Yard Sale

The annual Stoney Run community yard sale was actually supposed to be today, but a lot of people held off because of the flooding that went on this week.  So they have rescheduled it for October 1, 7am to noon.  I went last year and found some great stuff(a ton of little girl clothing that looks practically new!).  It is located just off of Bullfrog Valley Road.  There are supposed to be 60+ homes involved so it's a big one folks!  Mark your calendars. :)

PARK DAY

2. Mini Christmas Tree: lit tree in a topiary style gold pot. Four feet tall including pot.

3.Cedar chest: about four feet wide and two feet deep. Crack in the wood on top, but otherwise very sturdy and nice. Two small drawers under the main lidded compartment.

4. King down pillows: massive huge feather pillows. More for decoration than for sleeping because they are HUGE! New, never used. I should probably ask for a little bit of money for these because they are very high quality, but if you will come get them this week, they are FREE!

So Jason's b-day is coming up, and I want to surprise him with tickets to a Penn State Football game. Who knows, this may be JoPa's last season...? I just thinned out my periwinkle vinca vine. There are three healthy plants with long vines ready to be transplanted. Very hardy, and stay green most of the winter. My 8th wedding anniversary is next week and I need some ideas on what we should do. Restaurants? Activities? Anything and everything is welcome.

Yet another ABC mat

Hi Friends!

I got this ABC mat before Anne was born, and it has been taking up closet space ever since. Though I think she would probably enjoy it now, we just don't have the space to store or enjoy it properly.

Anyone want it? It has all the letters, no numbers, and I believe the K has had some reconstructive surgery (a piece of tape has been applied to the back).

Let me know. I just might bring it to you, even, and spare you the pick up.

ALSO, we are getting rid of our mattress and bed. It's a queen mattress, sturdy and firm, but admittedly not especially comfortable for a pregnant lady's hips. The bed we are trying to sell for $50. Know anyone who wants it? It's a slat style, so no box springs are needed. Pretty Scandinavian-looking design carved on white solid wood frame.

Free Play Mat, ABC's and 123's

I have another of these play mats. I found I don't need 3 OR 2. ;) They're fun play mats that have the alphabet and #'s 0-9. They can put them together like a puzzle, or put them together in cubes (or whatever). Christian loves when I put them together in zig-zag order, alphabetically, and he runs and jumps on the letters in order while singing the ABC song. ;) Fun times. It doesn't have the outside strips. ;) First come to take it away, first serve. (Or I can bring it to church.) I'll post and let you know when it's taken. It's in great condition!

Free TV! Well, sort of.

This is not a flat screen. Just a regular old TV. It's I guess 27 Inches. It's free sort of. Like most of the electronics in our house it's Shawn's. He's agreed to let it go if you'd like to make a $10 donation to this run he's doing in July to raise money for Back on My Feet. A nonprofit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of homeless men and women. So I guess technically it's not free but please someone get it out of my house!

Free Lamp

I have a darling lamp for a girl. The base is white and the shade is a dark pink with some gingham ribbon trim. It really is cute (it looks like a lamp you'd see in a Pottery Barn kids room). Too bad it never made it into my girls' room where I had intended when we moved here- we never had a night stand or bookshelf to put it on. FREE Shelf

I'm too tired to post a photo but we have an attractive 3-shelf bookshelf that folds up so it is easy to transport if you have a small car but the shelves lock into place. It will have to be picked up tomorrow because we're out of here!
The height is about waist high and it's light wood color.

Who Wants It?

I have a 3/4 full bottle of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Countertop Spray, Basil Scent. I bought it before I was pregnant and now that I'm pregnant, I can't stomach the scent. It doesn't smell like basil. It smells like...a very perfumey version of sort of basil but not really. It's not bad smelling, it's just...a lot of scent. Anyway, Mrs. Meyers is good stuff. Anyone want it? I can bring it to church Sunday...if I remember to.

Harrisburg Golds Open House

There's a free (anyone can come, you don't have to be a member!) Open House night at the Harrisburg Golds location. There will be a bunch of 20 minute "shuffle" classes so that you can get to try a little bit of everything, with free babysitting as well. I love the child watch at my gym. Anyway, I'll be teaching spin during the two earliest 20 minute slots: 4:30 - 4:50 and 4:50 - 5:10 if you want to say hey. If you're interested in joining the gym, this is a great way to get a taste of the classes and instructors. Or if you just want something free to do, with no obligation of signing up, that's great too. Also, there'll be Zumba, Body Combat and Body Pump going on in the group fitness room. Should be fun!

The Lebanon Ward will be having a Swap Meet in the Annville building's cultural hall. Flowers

I still have some flowers available if anyone wants some. There are only Petunias left, in a mix of red, pink, and white. I'm selling a 4-pack for only $1 (last time I checked, Walmart was selling them for $1.78). Let me know if you want some, or else come and stop by the house. They're set out on my front lawn.
I might get some other varieties this week, like geraniums or hanging baskets of calibrachoa. We'll see. Let me know if you're interested in something like that. Or, even better, come with me if you want a lot of flowers, and you can have your pick at the auction. It's in Leola, and is seriously exciting (if you've never bid at an auction, it's a big rush), plus, therein lies the best deal.

Table, Chair and Bakers rack for sale

Hey friends, we have decided that we are going to unload a few items before we move next month.
I want to keep these items, but Nate said he won't move them another time!

Manor Yard Sale

This Saturday (May 7) from 7:30 - noon is the Manor Yard Sale on the grass across from PNC Bank. It's a multi-family sale, so there'll be lots to choose from.

Southpoint/Deer Run Community Yard Sale

Pet Help

A sister in our ward needs some help feeding some pets while she is away. If possible, we would like to find a couple of people that are able to go into her home and feed them every couple of days and clean the cages once a week. She lives in Hershey, close to "downtown" :)
As a second option, if someone is willing to take one or both of the pets into their home temporarily, that would be helpful as well. There is a guinea pig and a parrot.

Bubble Wrap

I have a kitchen-size garbage bag full of bubble wrap. The large bubble kind. If anyone wants it. Other wise it's going out with the trash tomorrow night.

Boxes

We have a bunch of boxes that we've accumulated over the past 10 months.  They're a variety of sizes from big to small, including a lot of diaper boxes.  I know many are moving in the next month or two, so if you want them, let me know.  We just want them gone before next Thursday night, or we'll put them out for our recycling.

A friend of mine is taking a trip this summer to a major city, not sure where. She'd like to combine her vacation with a service project. Best Cheesesteak?

I have kind of a random question. Where is the best place to get an authentic cheesesteak in these parts (like Hummelstown/Hershey/Harrisburg area)? We've only had them from Fire Alley & The Boro and both have been pretty good but I'm curious if there is better around here. Obviously Philly is the prime location but I think that might be a little far to drive just to get a good cheesesteak.

My kids are too big for this. It's in pretty good condition. Just a little faded from the sun. It needs cleaned. It's been outside all winter.

Dora the Explorer bike. I don't know what the measurements are but I think it's for like a four year old. Hannah's too big for it and Jacob isn't a girl. There's a little bit of rust on it. You can see in the second photo and it needs a new front tire. Otherwise still has some life left in it.

They are getting rid of tons of stuff so if you'd like anything call me and I'll point you in the right direction. They also have 2 big bags of boy clothing sizes 2-4. Could be some fun projects- think primer and paint!
