Cucumbers and Squash

If you're ever driving down 743 or driving down McCorkel, there's a little stand of cucumbers and squash (zucchini and summer) for .25 cents each (on McCorkel road between 743 and Church Road). There's a little box where you can drop your change. I got a few cucumbers last night and they are delicious.

Canning Tomatoes

Salsa season is just about here. I called Risser Marvel and they have 1/2 bushel of canning tomatoes for $6. It's hit or miss whether they have them right now so call before you go but she said in August they will have a much more plentiful supply. So get your canning jars ready and get those sleeves rolled up in preparation!

Bushels of Green Beans

Katie B. is willing and able to pick up bushels (27 pounds) of fresh green beans for $15 (or $7.50 for a half bushel) and plans to do so in August. They are the SAME green beans that Giant sells and you can see the seller's photo at Giant in the produce section of the store next to the green beans. She said she went to the farm and his six kids were helping to pick, wash, sort and box. If you are interested, please call Katie B. and she will need your money before she picks them up.

PA Summer Ideas

I am desperately missing PA's fun locations and events in the summer. In case you need something to do or somewhere new and fun to go, here are some places/events that I fell in love with while living in Hershey.

Love live concerts? Love FREE concerts. Love family friendly concerts? Love historical settings with contemporary ambiance? Then you MUST go to MUSIKFEST in Bethlehem PA. Its about 1.5 hrs from Hershey, and totally worth the drive. Its held on the historic Moravian College grounds in "America's Christmas City", Bethlehem (if you havent gone here during Christmas time, its a must!!). There are tons of venues throughout the campus. Just pick your date (starts Aug 6-15) and see whats going on that day. Last year we saw swing bands, salsa bands, Celtic, and jazz all in 3 hours. The food is also amazing. They have vendors from all over.
They also have big name performers for a paid ticket. There are many this year including Nora Jones, Counting Crows, and Martina McBride to name a few. Go here to pick your date and see whats in store. Or google Musikfest 2010 Bethlehem,Pa.

Need some cultural enlightenment and art? Doylestown, Pa is the place. Never been? Its over by Philly. You must see the museum and "Castle" made of concrete. Visit the museum, its amazing.

If you want a great beach with imported white sand, kiddie playgrounds, clean bathrooms, and great atmosphere. Visit our favorite state park, Beltzville lake. Nestled in the foothills of the Poconos. About a 2 hr drive from Hershey. They also offer campsites nearby. The swimming beach is free and fantastic views of the mountains!
And while your at Beltzville, drive up the hill (20 min) to the city of Mauch Chunk. Better know as Jim Thorpe. Jim Thorpe's famous mansions and Victorian architecture support the claim that Mauch Chunk was once the home to 13 millionaires. During its golden era in the late 1800s the town was known as the wealthiest town - per capita - in America. Also home to the famous Molly Maguires.-The Molly Maguires were members of a secret Irish organization. Many historians believe the "Mollies" were present in the anthracite coal fields of Pennsylvania in the United States from approximately the time of the American Civil War until a series of sensational arrests and trials in the years 1876−1878. Its an interesting tour with the historic society. Worth seeing if you like history.

Enjoy your summer living in PA. You will miss it when you leave, I know I do!

Sewing Machine

Does anyone have an industrial-ish sewing machine that I can use for just a few small stitches? I told a friend I could fix her swimsuit halter strap and my little Bernina isn't hacking it.
Sincerely,
The Distressed Seamstress

Free Toys

These items were given to us by some friends in who were moving. We offered to get rid of them for them. Both items seem to be in good sturdy condition. They just need a good cleaning. Both have lived outside for quite a while.

The white desk part opens.

The back side has a little rock climbing stairs. This is made for really little kids. Probably 1-2 years of age.

They are free if anyone wants them. I ask that you come get them soon. We'd like to get rid of them. They are taking up a lot of room on our patio.

Gifford Pinchot

ON Tuesday July 13,2010 some of us are going to Gifford Pinchot. I thought about leaving around 10am. Bring your swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and food. If you want to bring something to share with others please do. Plan on bringing a sack lunch. You can mapquest and we will meet at the day use area. There is a playground and bathrooms. We can meet at the playset and decide from there. If you have any questions feel free to call me or Nancy Bradford.

Long-term food storage items

There's not much left . . . . it's been going fast!
In our continued effort to downsize our belongings to only those things that can fit into our small apartment in New York City, we had to make the very hard decision to get rid of most of our long term food storage items. If you are working on your long term food storage, this is a great opportunity to stock up without have to drive long distances to get the food at good prices, you don't have to schedule time at the cannery in Camp Hill or Lancaster and make the long haul over there with all your supplies, and you don't have to pay any shipping charges.

The food was purchased and sealed up in food-grade buckets (with oxygen packets in mylar bags) 2-years ago and all of it has a 30+ year shelf life. It has been kept in our basement that stays dry and cool all year. This will save you TONS of HOURS and lots of $ if it's a need you currently have.

The buckets are packed like this

4-Hard Red Wheat in 33-pound sealed buckets $10 each
(LDS church storehouse sells it pre-packaged for $17.05)

2-White Rice in 30+ pound sealed buckets $15 each
(LDS church storehouse sells it for $20.20-prepackaged)

Please e-mail me at bryce_home@yahoo.com or call me at 717-534-9937
Thanks!

Or knows of an etsy shop that sells them? Or does anyone have one that we can borrow- navy blue, copper or a combination of those colors? Thanks!
