Philadelphia Flower Show 2010

Ok, this might sound crazy for some of you, but here it goes.

For years I have volunteered in the nationally renowned Philadelphia Flower Show, in exchange for free entry and other perks. The job I like to do is "Barrier Aid", which is (as Fancy Nancy would say) a fancy name for 'rope holder'. There is judging going on in many categories and while the judges are at work, we need to give them some space to roam around and do their bla-bla-bla.

The ticket is worth around 30 bucks (I think! I haven't bought one since the 90's). But the main attraction for freaks like me is not just the money saving part. This event is very crowded all day long. So, when you volunteer you get to enter those walls way before it is open to the public.

I usually get there by 6:30 or 7 am, so I can see all the beautiful displays and take awesome pictures without any one pushing me or keeping me going when I want to be stationary, pose and enjoy the views (by that time cabin fever has taken me over and spun me around).

Anyway, they are always recruiting new volunteers. The dates for volunteering are Saturday Feb 28th, Tuesday Mar 2nd and Friday Mar 5th. If you are interested let me know and I will give you the sign-up info.

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the site for the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple. The specific location is 1739 Vine Street in downtown Philadelphia.

The site is adjacent to the Vine Street Expressway and neighboring Courts Building and situated diagonally across the street from Logan Square, a prominent Philadelphia landmark.

The Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple was announced by Church President Thomas S. Monson in October 2008. Currently, there are 130 operating temples in the world, with another 21 that have been announced or are under construction.

Hi my friends. I love this time of year for movies. Lots of places are having good prices...Walmart usually does. However, if you go to www.amazon.com you can get some GREAT prices on DVDs that are coming out. Julie and Julia is $9.98 (also price online at walmart) and Star Trek is $9.99 for single disc (which is a way better price than all the stores are having) and the blue-ray for this disc is only $19.99..that is 50% off!! Donations will benefit both the Lancaster County Boys & Girls Club and Toys for Tots. The Boys & Girls Club is in need of supplies for their clubhouses; specifically art supplies, games and sporting equipment. Toys for Tots will accept any new, unwrapped toy. Only new items will be accepted. Limit of one ticket per person. All donations must be made in person - tickets will not be given to guests who are donating on behalf of someone else. Additional donations made by the same person will not result in additional tickets.

H1N1 Vaccine Appointments

I know some people have been trying to find a place to get your kids the H1N1 Vaccination. I myself have made many phone calls without much luck; until today!

If you go to www.h1n1inpa.com they are now setting up appointments at the Dauphin County State Health Center in Harrisburg.

Due to vaccine doses allocated to Pennsylvania by the federal government being less than estimated, the Department is requesting that only individuals in the following recommended target groups attend these public health clinics to get vaccinated:

• individuals between the ages of six months and 24 years;
• household contacts and caregivers for children younger than six months;
• pregnant women;
• healthcare providers and emergency medical services personnel; and
• those under 65 years of age with underlying health conditions, including asthma, diabetes, suppressed immune systems, heart disease, kidney disease, and neurocognitive and neuromuscular disorders.

If you or your children fall into one of these categories, go HERE (or you can get to the link from the h1n1 webpage towards the bottom where it says: Appointments can be made by clicking here.)

Once you get there, click continue and type in the name of the person who will be getting the vaccination. (You will have to make separate appointments for each person.)

Then click on the location that you want to get it done at (The closest for us is the Dauphin county one.)

Then choose your choice of time. They run in hour blocks.

Right now appointments are being made for Nov 20th and Nov 21st.

I meant to put this up earlier, but time got the better of me and I am now putting this up on the last day that this is running.

Ride....Again

We are coming back to Hershey after a 6 week stay in California (I'm sure you've all missed us).   We figured this time we would just rent a car to take us from BWI back to Hershey, but we found out the rental car prices have doubled (due to the holidays, I'm sure).  So, here I am again asking for a ride from BWI back to Hershey.  We come in the day after Thanksgiving around 4:40pm.  You could drive our van down to pick us up and we would pay for gas and pay you $100  (the price went up because it's over the holidays, and well - the rental car price went up so we would still be saving money).  I know it's the day after Thanksgiving and not very convenient, but if anyone would be willing to do it we would be eternally grateful. Movement Magic

Do make sure that you look at the costume before buying it. One of the costumes I was going to get had a mask that had been ripped and no pants. Double check. But, you can score for next year!

Free Perennial

I'm playing musical plants in my front flower bed, and the ornamental grass gets the boot. I actually love this plant, but it makes my squatty house look even shorter. It's an ornamental grass perennial (sorry I don't know the variety) that grows to at least 6 ft. tall. Similar to those you see by the rocks on Governor Rd. in front of the Blue Barn I think? Anyway, if someone wants it, let me know. It has a root ball of about 2 ft. in diameter, but would easily fit in someone's trunk, since I chopped her down to size a few months ago. If no one responds by Friday, I'm freecycling it, since I've already dug it up. Thanks!

Our newer Samsung TV stopped working. Although we bought an extended warranty, thinking we'd be safe, the warranty company went out of business (keeping our cash.... so NOT a good deal)

I actually downloaded the file and then changed it to Dinner ideas for tomorrow night. That's just better for our family :)
