An odd favor

I have an odd favor to ask. We will be out in Utah in December during the time that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir will be giving their annual Christmas concerts. In order to go you need tickets. The tickets are distributed via computer randomly to those who register. You can only register once per address/household. If anyone doesn't mind going to lds.org and registering for tickets for the "Mormon Tabernacle Choir "The Wondrous Gift of Christmas" Christmas Concert before Monday, Oct 26th 11:59 pm for me, I would be grateful as that would increase our chances of being able to go. There is no cost for registering for the tickets, just a few minutes of your time.
Click on "events", then locate the Mo Tab Christmas concert, and it will take you right to the page, then click on "register for tickets." You will then be notified via email if you receive tickets or not. I don't know when the tickets will be mailed out.... maybe sometime in Oct/Nov.
We would be able to go to the Sat evening concert (Dec 12th) or Sunday morning broadcast. But if tickets became available for Thurs or Fri nights, we might be able to work something out.

Aumen's Paint Store

So, the other day I walked into Aumen's Paint Store by Palmyra. As I was walking in I noticed that the store was closed on Sundays. As I was looking around, the manager came up and began talking to me. I mentioned to him how happy I was that he was closed on Sundays. He said, "Really . . . you mean it?" I replied yes and that I thought Sunday was an important day to keep shops closed. He said, "You won't believe the pressure I get to open it on Sundays." Then his eyes began to turn red and he shed a few tears. I walked out realizing how important it is to support shops that are still trying to keep the Sabbath Day holy.

Since then, everyone I have talked to about this store swears that it is the best store for getting paint. The paint is high quality and is only a little more expensive than Lowes etc. One of the people I talked to about it was the Meilstrups - and, not surprising, that is the only place they go to get their paint. Also, the manager told me that he gives discounts for first time customers. So, if you need paint . . . go to Aumen's store. It looks like it is one of those shops "locals" know about, love, and go to (kindof like Landis Auto).

Pumpkin Festival at the Gardens

Paul is taking two of our girls to the Pumpkin Festival on Saturday morning at 10am. He can get another adult into the gardens with their children with our membership. Would anyone like to meet him there and enjoy the festival from 10-12:30? Taxes... Shiver

Many of you already know I am an attorney. Some of you even know I am a tax attorney (after doing healthcare for a few years, I switched.) I have done taxes for an even smaller number of you in past years. People are starting to ask me questions about whether I am doing taxes again next year. (Sheri!)

What's the point of this post? I am offering to do taxes for the ward. The reason I am offering this early is that there are some things for your 2009 taxes you should do before year end, if you plan on them. (For instance, paying your real estate taxes before Dec. 31 if you're itemizing will boost your return. Also, if your kid is due in January, have him or her induced early. Just kidding. :P) SO, if you want me to do your taxes, maybe we should talk a bit before the end of the year.

Here's the catch. I do taxes for myself, and my family, and a few old clients mostly. I have to buy expensive professional software to do it. (You may not know this but Turbo Tax is NOT something any CPA or professional would ever use for a variety of reasons, mostly because it's horrible. Sorry, I digress.) I also have to pay a "per return filed" fee.

AND this year, I am working part time. SO, I can't just do them for free--I just don't have the time. I am NOT posting this to try and make money off you, though. My fees are basically so that I am only doing your taxes if you really want (or need) a professional to do them. Call H&R Block or a CPA in the Spring and compare and you won't think I am trying to profit off you. I get all the work I want from my job--trust me on this.

So, if you want me to do your taxes for 2009, gimme a call or shoot me an email. We can talk about what you may need to do (or consider) in the next few months. My charges are as follows:

Pee Pee Teepee

I wasn't sure Paul was serious when he came home from work yesterday and told me about the "pee pee teepee". But after 6 days with a baby boy I have a serious need for something so extremely practical. I have NEVER heard anyone mention these before and I wonder why. Changing each diaper is a complete risk because I never know what will be in the line of fire. We can save outfits, energy, water, laundry detergent and sanity!!!

Gold and Tan Vinyl

Free shoes or coat

I just got Whit some new brown shoes and he thinks he should only have like 4 pairs of shoes or something so he is insisting he should give his barely worn pair of tan shoes away. We got them at Dillard's I think. They are pretty nice--size 12. Dressy enough for church, casual enough for daily wear. Anyone want some free men's shoes?

Also, I bought a coat when I came out here a few year ago. I thought I would like a long black wool coat (it has a great hood) but turns out, with my black Uggs, it makes me look like a goth. SO, if anyone wants a black wool coat I bought at Boscov's, it's only been worn once! I think it's a size 8. (Free, again)

I went to A.C. Moore in need of natural fiber yarn, embroidery floss, foam sheets and construction paper. And they were ALL on sale! I mean, everyone loves a sale but it's so much better when the stuff you were going to buy anyway was on sale as opposed to buying something on sale that you don't really need, you just buy it because it's cheap...none of us ever do that, right? Riiiiiiiight.

For you knitters and crocheters out there, they have a lot of natural fiber blend yarns (non-acrylic like cotton, wool, bamboo, angora, etc.) on sale for 2 for $6.

Also, embroidery floss is 6 for $1. At this price, this means I'll be giving all of you friendship bracelets for Christmas instead of a plate of cookies.

Foam sheets (as well as acrylic felt sheets, I saw) are 6 for $1.

Also, construction paper: 500 sheets for $10.99. Not a great deal, but my cashier scanned a 50% off one item coupon she had crumpled up by her register that I guess was in their flyer that I don't get. Cut Vinyl at just over cost

Over the past couple of weeks I have had a few people ask me if I would be willing to cut vinyl for them. (Word got out that I have a vinyl cutter at Super Saturday). While I am not really looking to start a vinyl business of my own, I decided that I would be willing to propose a "win-win" opportunity for anyone that is interested.

Through the month of October, I will cut vinyl for ANYONE at basically $1.50 for increments of 12 x 3 inch sections. (ex: something that measures 3 x 8 will be $1.50 and something that is 14 x 2 will be $3.00 etc . . . obviously really small things can be worked out and anything with lots of details to weed may cost a little more) If you are not located in the Hershey area, you will be responsible for the shipping cost (heavy envelope or tube and postage). **items to be used for personal or gift purposes only, not to be used for profit please**

This will basically just cover the cost of the vinyl and other supplies for me (I bought more vinyl than I could ever be able to use myself :) and you get a GREAT deal on vinyl for you.

My cutter is not big, but will cut up to 8" tall and basically as long as you want. It runs off of true-type fonts and dingbats (of which I have hundreds :). The colors of vinyl that I have are black, white, pink, chocolate, red and dark green.

I just got the heads up, Disney is launching a new "volunteer" program for 2010.
Basically, you sign up to volunteer for one day at a participating charity and in return, Disney will give you a free park ticket good for any day in 2010! Up to 8 people per household, ages 6 and up. We were planning on going to Disney in October 2010, so this is great, the girls can "earn" their tickets.

The program begins Jan. 1, when interested individuals age 6 and above can sign up for eligible volunteer projects. Participating children under age 16 must volunteer with an adult. The HandsOn Network will help Disney connect to 70,000 non-profits that need volunteers’ help and have eligible projects.

While only one admission per person will be awarded by Disney, many of the projects will be family-oriented, so families of up to eight people can each earn a free day, according to the company.

Bargain Halloween Costumes

I stopped into Wears Like New in Hershey and saw that they have a circular rack full of Halloween costumes. They are in pretty nice condition, some are even new and the prices are just right. I was tickled pink by a big, fluffy chicken costume that was brand new for $10 (the tag said $24.50 from Old Navy). It was SO cute and I wished someone in my family needed it. Seriously- it was head to toe chicken. Good for a laugh, anyway.

If you pay cash today you get 20% off your purchase. Have you ever shopped the shoes there? I just found a pair of brand new leather boys shoes for $3.20 with the 20% off. That's hard to beat. It's sure hit or miss but if you hit the shoes just right you're in for a great bargain.

Fun Conference Helps for Kids and families

Just a reminder that General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is this weekend (Saturday the 4th at noon and 4:00pm EST and Sunday the 5th at noon and 4:00 EST). Here is a link to a website FULL of fun packets, games, activities and much more to help kids (everyone) be more interested in listening to and paying attention to conference. My family's favorite is the BINGO :)

For those that are not aware, it is an opportunity for us as members of the church to the hear the inspired counsels of our beloved Prophet, Thomas S. Monson, members of the 12 Apostles, and many other church leaders 2 times a year. Here is a link for more information on how to watch on-line if you are interested. Some areas are able to get it on basic cable (we get it on channel 76 I believe) and it can also be seen on BYU TV.

I saw a little flyer for "CLIP FOR THE CURE" at the library. SmartStyle (located inside Wal-mart) is offering $10 haircuts on Saturday, October 3rd. Sales benefit the Regis Foundation for Breast Cancer Research to further the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
